Al Capone’s Historical Prison Cell, The Mind Blowing Interior Design for This Worst Criminal

The criminal cases always happen everywhere, especially for the Indonesian hot topic which involved the policeman, Ferdy Sambo who forced Richard Eliezer as his junior to kill Ferdy Sambo’s other junior. The revealing case made them throw themselves into the prison even Ferdy Sambo itself was sentenced for his lifetime punishment.

That made Ferdy Sambo become an Indonesian public enemy who was mentioned as the one who had immunity from prosecution, but do you know? The American also had Al Capone as their public enemy in 1930, who appeared to be immune from prosecution where both the civic administration and the police had a reputation for bribery and corruption.

Beside his criminal case, Al Capone had his mind blowing concept for his prison cell interior design. It’s kinda ironic, but we guess it had an aesthetic interior design which was portrayed as a vintage concept.

This is the home of the worst criminal, Al Capone. The prison in the state of Philadelphia, United States of America is the most unique and aesthetic in the world because it has its own interior design concept. The room's decor revealed the luxurious life of crime lord Al Capone during the 8 years he was held in it. This vintage prison cell had several antique furnitures such as the burgundy bed with luxury lamp, an elegant writing desk and the chair, a painting on the wall, the beautiful rugs and a gladiolus vase. This mind blowing concept of this prison cell made it become a recreation destination now. The exhibit was inspired by an August 20, 1929, article in the Philadelphia Public Ledger that included a photograph of Capone's luxurious cell at Eastern State. However, this feature of the historic 19th century prison has been closed to visitors for months due to a restoration project, which began in January. This cell was designed differently than the most of of the other cells at Eastern State, with a layer of wire lath beneath the plaster. Because the lath was corroded, the Materials Conservation team planned to remove it and replace it with new wire.

Liz Trumbull, Eastern State’s manager of historic preservation and architectural conservation stated:

“We felt like this really fine furniture was in stark contrast to the peeling plaster and peeling paint, and it wasn’t working,” said Trumbull. “The goal was to replaster the walls so the quality of the architectural finishes matched the quality of the furniture.”

They studied this material evidence more closely and then looked for corroborating clues in historical records to piece together answers to some of those questions. First, the conservators used a microscope to examine cross sections of paint chips and discovered over 20 layers of paint. They were able to date the layers by observing the changes in paint manufacturing methods following WWII. They inferred from this that the cell walls were painted in blues and greens for the first five decades or so, until the 1920s.

“As we started peeling it back, we found the wire lath and that layer of plaster were encapsulating and protecting a layer of paint, we didn’t know the significance of it. It was interesting enough that we paused the project in order to do research and really dig into what it was that we were seeing.”
“Where we’ve landed, though we still have a lot of questions, is that this is one of the most intact examples that we have of decorative painting at Eastern State, and we think there’s evidence of artistic painting within this cell.”

Conservators carried out the original plan to replaster the walls in the new cell to better match the fancy furnishings. They didn't find any more secret information under it, despite the fact that it had peeling paint that should be removed.
